Alleged robbery prompts shooting

A 23-year-old man was shot in the chest and leg Saturday, just after midnight. The alleged shooter is in custody.
Goldsboro police say Exzavia Cortez Ramseur, of Charles, Md., was shot twice as he sat on the back porch of the residence at 143 Dupont Circle.
Investigators said Ramseur was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Vidant Medical Center for further treatment.
Neither hospital released any information regarding his condition.
Sgt. Dwayne Dean of the Goldsboro Police Department's Investigations Division said via email Saturday that the shooting took place after Ramseur was confronted about an armed robbery that allegedly took place earlier in the evening Friday.
At about 10:15 p.m., Fuquan Stevens and Christine King, 16, reported an armed robbery at the same Dupont Circle residence.
Stevens told police his cell phone was taken at gunpoint by a black male in his 20s. The suspect then allegedly punched both Stevens and Ms. King in the face.
When Ms. King told her father, Jamaine Mills, 37, about the robbery and assault, she and he returned to 143 Dupont Circle and a verbal altercation ensued.
Dean said that is when Mills allegedly shot Ramseur. An investigation report obtained from the Goldsboro Police Department earlier in the day listed five shots.
Investigator Chris Crawford developed Mills as a suspect after interviewing several witnesses and eventually ended up speaking to Mills over the phone.
Mills then decided to turn himself in to police and surrendered peacefully to Crawford at the police department.
Mills, of 710 National Drive, was arrested and placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.
Charges may soon be filed as well for the alleged armed robbery. That matter is still under investigation.
