The following poem was written by Marine Cpl. Joseph Nelson Hargrove and delivered to his wife, Gail, just two weeks before he was declared missing in action. The Department of Defense later changed the Marine's status to killed in action, but his remains have still not been recovered and returned to Wayne County.
"I think of you for hours at a time,
And when I think of you, it's like the warm sunshine.
It's beautiful knowing you're mine.
I think of you just about all the time.
I think of you and the fun we had.
I think of the short time we were together and I get mad.
I think of you and the happy times we shared.
And I think of the future and I get glad.
I love thinking of you.
There's nothing I would rather do.
And when this year is up my love,
I will be coming back to you."
