Students write about abstinence

Area high school students are again being asked to write about why abstinence is the best choice for teens to prevent pregnancy.
This marks the 11th year for the annual Abstinence Essay Contest, co-sponsored by the Health Department and the Wayne Council on Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention.
All Wayne County teens in grades 9-12, public, private and home-schooled, are eligible to participate.
Information has been distributed through the schools. Entry forms are also available at the Health Department or online at www.wayneteens.com.
There is a 1,500-word limit for the essay and submissions must be received or postmarked by May 15. Submissions may be mailed, along with an entry form to: Abstinence Essay Contest, Wayne County Health Department -- Health Education Division, 301 N. Herman St., Box CC, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
Prizes will be awarded for the top three entries. First place is a $1,000 scholarship and $200 gift certificate; second place is a $500 scholarship and $100 gift certificate; and third place is a $300 scholarship and $50 gift certificate.
