A domestic argument between a man and his wife escalated Friday morning, prompting the woman's 18-year-old son to step in.

A fight broke out. A knife was introduced. The husband went to Wayne Memorial Hospital, the son to Wayne County Jail,

Deandre Marquese Spruill was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury for allegedly stabbing Delinwood Brewington, 39, several times. He is being held under a $10,000 secured bond.

According to the report filed with the Goldsboro Police Department, the scenario unfolded quickly.

Sontina Brewington, 39, woke her husband up at 6:45 a.m. Friday and accused him of cheating. The couple argued. The argument spilled out into the living room of their home on Hollowell Avenue.

Spruill heard the shouting and came out. He accused the man of calling his mother a name and the two started to fight.

Ms. Brewington smashed her husband over the head with a metal wall hanging. He turned his attention to her, leaving Spruill free to run to the kitchen.

Spruill came back with a knife, stabbed Brewington a number of times in the back and dropped the weapon, according to the report.

Ms. Brewington called 911.

Brewington fled and was later taken to the hospital by Wayne County EMS.

Officials with Wayne Memorial said Brewington was treated and released the same day.

Spruill is scheduled to appear in district court on May 8.
