Fraud

A case of stolen identity was reported to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office Monday. James Earl Herring, 73, of Country Club Road, Mount Olive told deputies that more than $5,900 was stolen from his Wells Fargo bank account by a known suspect. Upon looking into the matter with his bank, Herring found that his account had been hacked using his name, address and Social Security number. The hacker funneled money in various amounts to herself and another person, and to a prepaid credit card service called Serve. The Sheriff's Office is investigating.
