A 17-year-old Mount Olive man charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting on Dogwood Lane in September 2012 pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Wednesday in Wayne County Superior Court.

Giovanny Santos Rodriguez, of 210 Glen St., was sentenced to a minimum of four and a maximum of six years in prison for the Sept. 1 shooting death of Uber Salas Ortiz, 23, at 109 Dogwood Lane in Goldsboro.

Ortiz was found shot in his home just after 2 a.m. when deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired at that location. He was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Rodriguez was arrested by Detective Sgt. Robert Parchman less than two weeks after the murder. He was charged with first-degree murder and firing into an occupied dwelling and held in the Wayne County Jail without bond.

According to court records, the gun used in the murder was never found.
