The Wayne County Sheriff's Office Drug Squad, working with the Duplin County Sheriff's Office, the Greenville Drug Task Force, the SBI and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency, stopped and arrested two Greenville men suspected of transporting cocaine through Wayne County on Thursday.

Jason Laron Savage, 33, and Raymark Devon Bembury, 35, were charged with trafficking cocaine by possession, trafficking cocaine by transportation, maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of transporting a controlled substance and conspiracy to traffic cocaine by possession and transportation.

Savage, whose arrest report listed him as having been in possession of 51 grams of cocaine, is being held under a $1 million secured bond in the Wayne County Jail.

Bembury's bond was set at $1.25 million, secured.

The supporting agencies and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office "D" shift set up surveillance around the county after receiving notification that the suspects were expected to be passing through the area.

The two men were found in possession of what deputies called "a substantial amount of cocaine," during a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 111 South just after 9 p.m.

Wayne County Sheriff's Office K-9 officer "Shelly" helped locate the drugs, which were seized.

Investigators have not released the total quantity of cocaine seized.
