Raecher to be Shriners' voice

George Raecher of Goldsboro has been appointed to the Sudan Shriners Divan as the assistant recorder, and to a second term as the director of public relations and editor of the Sudan Red Fez.
Newly elected Sudan Potentate Ken Bennett made the appointments at the organization's annual meeting and election of officers on Jan. 26.
As public relations director, Raecher is responsible for media and public relation matters for Sudan Shriners. As assistant recorder, he will assist the recorder who is the operations officer.
Raecher is married to the former Janice "Jan" Moore of the Seven Springs area and the couple now live in the Goldsboro. They have three married daughters and six grandchildren.
Raecher is retired from the United States Air Force and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and is currently the chief of law enforcement for the Wayne County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
Sudan, whose offices are located in New Bern, is one of the largest of the 195 Shrine Temples with 5,500 members. Temples are located throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Philippines, Germany, and Puerto Rico.
Shriners Hospitals for Children is a unique health care system consisting of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research, and teaching programs for medical professionals. Children up to the age of 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family centered environment, regardless of ability to pay.
Sudan Shriners are currently sponsoring 582 children in eastern North Carolina. Most are treated for orthopedic issues in the Greenville, S.C., Shriners Hospital for Children.
However, 31 are being treated for burns at the Cincinnati hospital, 20 for spinal cord injuries in Philadelphia, Pa, three in Montreal, Canada for brittle bone disease, and five in Chicago and one in Houston Texas for pectus excavation or caved-in chest.
