A Pikeville man was arrested Friday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office on charges of sexual offenses against a minor. The abuse, investigators say, began when the victim was 6 years old and continued until she turned 12.
Donald Scott Taylor, 49, of 136 Leigh St., has been charged with four counts of first-degree sexual offenses with a child and four counts of indecent liberties with a child. He is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $4.1 million secured bond.
Officials with the Sheriff's Office could not go into detail about the nature of the crimes, but did say that the suspect had been cooperative throughout the investigation.
The crimes, according to a WCSO press release, took place several years ago over a six-year period. The victim is now in her 20s.
"There are no statutes of limitations on felonies in the state of North Carolina," Maj. Tom Effler said.
Taylor has no prior convictions for sex crimes and is therefore not a registered sex offender. Due to the nature of the crimes the victim's identity will be withheld.
Taylor was scheduled to have a first court appearance today.
