Goldsboro crowns its Miss

While much of Wayne County remained under a thin sheet of ice Saturday night, the competition was heating up inside the Paramount Theatre for the 2013 Miss Goldsboro Scholarship Pageant.
Aspiring opera singer and Miss North Carolina hopeful Beth Stovall was crowned Miss Goldsboro before a packed house of more than 500 distinguished guests.
"I'm just ready to start broadening my horizons and jump right into the next big thing," Miss Stovall said. Her dream is to perform in front of millions.
"It was all I could do not to burst into tears in front of everybody," she said. She said her focus is to begin preparing immediately for the Miss North Carolina competition so she can "win that crown too."
Also crowned at the end of the evening was the new Miss Outstanding Teen, Emma Carter.
Outgoing Miss Goldsboro Blair Mozingo said that carrying the title comes with a lot of responsibility but also a lot of honor and prestige.
"It's going to be a busy year for (her), it's really what you make it, though," Miss Mozingo said. The psychology and criminal justice major plans to make another run herself at the Miss N.C. crown and, after that, Miss America. She has also invested eight months into a locally recorded studio album due to be released in the near future.
Needless to say, the Miss Goldsboro standard has been set high for Miss Stovall.
"A lot of hard work is going to come my way," she said.
Executive director Kim Best, now in her second year as pageant director, was also honored with an award for the best new preliminary pageant in the state.
