The former director of maintenance at Goldsboro Assisted Living who was charged with sexual assault on Aug. 8, 2012, has been sentenced to 60 days in jail. The sentence was suspended, however, and Gerald Dean Blizzard, 68, will instead serve six months of unsupervised probation and pay a $75 fine.

Goldsboro police charged Blizzard, of Old Grantham Road, eight days after it was reported that he assaulted an 89-year-old Alzheimer's patient under care at the facility. The incident was said to have taken place on July 20 when an employee witnessed Blizzard with his hand under the patient's shirt.

When the Wayne County Department of Social Services investigated, it was reported that Blizzard had been seen going into the rooms of female patients and closing the door. He allegedly spent an "excessive amount of time" in those rooms.

As part of his sentence, Blizzard was given a no contact order and must not go around the assisted living facility or the victim. If for any reason he is found in violation of his unsupervised probation, he will have to serve the full 60-day sentence.
