Wayne Community College nursing students chose to make the lives of Cherry Hospital clients better this holiday season.
Members of the WCC Association of Nursing Students and the Associate Degree Nursing Classes of 2013 and 2014 donated items such as hygiene products, games, clothes, socks, gloves, and reading glasses they had solicited or collected from local businesses, the campus, including the college's dental department, and Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation. The Practical Nursing Class of 2013 also donated $100 to the hospital for clients needs.
Students in the college's nursing programs have clinical learning experiences at the hospital and noted items that clients enjoyed or needed, so they took on acquiring those items as a project, said instructor Joanne McClave.
"Cherry has a lot of our graduates, too," she said. "Once they (students) start working with the clients there, they realize they want to work there professionally."
