Word circulating throughout the city of Goldsboro, police say, led 24-year-old suspected murderer Jamel Rashon Edwards to turn himself in voluntarily to police Thursday, just after 7:45 p.m.
Edwards was charged with an open count of murder for the Dec. 20 killing of Anthony Hollomon, 36.
Hollomon was transported by private vehicle to Wayne Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound, and died shortly after arriving. According to press releases issued by Goldsboro police, the investigation led first to the scene of the crime, Hollomon's residence at 709 N. George St.
From there, investigators were able to develop Edwards, of 1909 N. William St., as the primary suspect in the shooting and hit the streets looking to bring him in.
"Word on the street got to him. Once the Crime Scene Unit guys get out there and start asking around, word gets out pretty quick," Sgt. Paige Learnard said.
Edwards is being held without bond in the Wayne County Jail pending a first appearance scheduled for Dec. 31.
