A house fire at 317 E. Walnut St. left one firefighter injured Sunday and damaged the structure beyond repair.
The Goldsboro Fire Department was dispatched at 5:58 a.m. to the home, which is divided into three separate apartments.
Assistant Fire Chief James Farfour said it was more than half in flames when they arrived.
Engines 1, 2, 3 and 4, and Ladder 1 all responded to the blaze.
The fire caused severe damage to the structure and threatened a neighboring building on its western side, Farfour said. The nearby building was reportedly occupied, so the first responders' primary concern was protecting that house, he said.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control by 7:45 a.m., but not before one of their own was injured, requiring transport to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The injured firefighter, whose name was not released, was treated and released.
