Following a car chase, a crash, and an attempt to flee on foot, an alleged rapist and burglar, Marvin Devon Breeden, 19, 315 E. Walnut St., was tracked down by a K-9 unit Wed-nesday, and apprehended. He now sits in Wayne County Jail, held under a $1 million secured bond.

At about 5 a.m. Wednesday, deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office responded to a break-in and sexual assault on Antioch Road.

According to sheriff's office reports, the suspect broke into the home of the victim, raped her, robbed her and then stole her car. A description of the vehicle was immediately distributed to all local law enforcement.

The stolen vehicle was spotted by a deputy on U.S. 117 North, and a chase ensued. Goldsboro police assisted in the pursuit, which culminated in a wreck at the intersection of Hooks River Road and Carolina Street.

Breeden escaped the crash unharmed, and fled into a wooded area near the road.

K-9 officers responded and tracked the suspect into the woods. Deputy Jason Sasser and his police dog, Shorty, soon emerged with Breeden in custody.

Maj. Tom Effler of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said the victim, not yet identified, was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

"She was treated and released," Effler said.

Breeden is charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree rape, first degree kidnapping, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen property, larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Charges stemming from the police chase and accident are pending.
