Three hurt in double accident

This vehicle was one of four damaged in two accidents that happened on N.C. 55 Friday night.
Three people were injured in two accidents Friday night that involved four vehicles.
Two state Highway Patrol troopers from the Highway Patrol investigated the accidents, which happened shortly before 11 p.m. on N.C. 55 near its intersection with Pineview Cemetery Road and N.C. 403.
Manglio Garcia Gonzales, 19, of Mount Olive, allegedly crossed the center line and hit a pickup truck head-on, before striking a third vehicle.
The driver of the pickup truck was Brandon Matthew Wiggins, 27, of Mount Olive, and the driver of the third vehicle was Connie Guy Ball, 30, of Kinston.
Gonzales and Wiggins were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, and Cook said Gonzales was then taken by ambulance to Vidant in Greenville.
Shortly after the first incident, another vehicle became involved and that accident was investigated separately by Trooper Justin Creech.
"After Trooper Cook's accident, an eastbound car struck debris in the road, causing the driver to lose control of his vehicle," Creech said.
Thomas Jefferson Proffitt Jr., 79, of Kinston, reportedly traveled left of center and struck one of the vehicles involved in the previous accident, causing it to turn around and strike a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, Creech explained, was Wiggins.
Proffitt was also taken by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Hospital officials Saturday night had no record of any of the drivers being patients, which the nurse supervisor explained meant that they had been treated and released or were transferred to another hospital.
Charges in the accident are pending, according to the troopers.
