Veterans Parade to be Nov. 10

There will be Boy Scout troops and marching bands.

The keynote speaker, a 4th Fighter Wing officer, will ensure that Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is represented.

But as Nov. 10 approaches, members of the Wayne County Veterans and Patriots Coalition are continuing to encourage the community -- and squadrons from both the 4th and its Reserve counterpart, the 916th Air Refueling Wing -- to sign on to participate in Goldsboro's annual Veterans Day parade.

They want people to have a number of reasons to pack the streets that Saturday morning.

Steve Keen will be there.

The Wayne County commissioner, who spent four years in the Navy before receiving an honorable discharge, has been named the event's grand marshal.

And despite confusion regarding whether or not the typical parade route will be accessible -- members of the Coalition said they were told that the streetscape project that has left a block of Center Street closed for last past several months may or may not be completed by then, but Planning Director Randy Guthrie said the city will open the thoroughfare Nov. 9 -- the organization's president Bill Graham said the morning promises to be a memorable one.

Registration for the parade will remain open for the next few weeks.

Groups need only visit the county Veterans Services office on Ash Street to sign up -- or contact Graham at (919)-394-2200.
