Car almost hits former New China

A driver who piloted his Mazda 3 off the road and more than 270 feet before coming to a stop in front of the former site of New China on Berkeley Boulevard walked away from the accident before being charged by the Goldsboro Police Department with driving while impaired.
Goldsboro Police and Fire departments responded to the one-car accident which happened about 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
The car, which was traveling north on North Berkeley Boulevard, exited the roadway in front of Charlie's Automotive and continued traveling north past the sign for Batteries Plus, a telephone pole and the New China sign, narrowly missing each but managing to snap a small tree in half.
The driver, Joshua Craig Sutton of Greenville, was treated and released at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The cost of the damage to his vehicle was estimated at about $2,000.
