Waynesborough Park will be ground zero for a zombie outbreak this weekend as dozens of undead volunteers will be chasing visitors down the historic village's trails during the park's Zombie Apocalypse and Haunted Village events.
The historic village will be decked out in spooky decor where storytellers will spin tales of ghosts and spirits Friday and Saturday from 7:30 p.m. until.
The park will also feature a zombie adventure game that will pit participants against zombies as they scramble to collect food, water and medical supplies along the trails.
Volunteers dressed as zombies will pursue survivors, who will carry a single water gun per group to fend away the attacking undead.
Thomas Bailey, the organizer of the event, characterized the game as an elaborate game of tag, as zombies will be trying to take flags off of their prey.
Once survivors complete the necessary tasks, they receive a certificate to prove they survived the zombie apocalypse.
Bailey said he is still looking for volunteers for the event, which he said is appropriate for all ages. Volunteers must be 12 years or older.
The price to participate is $15 and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Old Waynesborough Commission and the Goldsboro Explorers.
