They put more pressure on themselves every year.

Their expectations elevate.

So even though their annual parade is more than a month away, members of the Wayne County Veterans and Patriots Coalition are already urging the community to sign on to participate.

They want the streets to be packed on Veterans Day.

But coalition president Bill Graham doesn't want people to show up for him.

It's his comrades, the Vietnam veteran says, that deserve to be honored.

"We want this to be the best parade we've ever had," he said.

Registration for the Nov. 11 parade that typically attracts everyone from active duty military personnel to high school marching bands is officially open.

Groups need only visit the county Veterans Services office on Ash Street to sign up.

Graham is confident that many will -- that a community that prides itself on its support for Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and veterans alike will fill downtown streets that fall morning.

But it doesn't hurt, he said, to give his neighbors plenty of time to sign the dotted line.
