Fire being investigated
Wayne County Sheriff's deputies responded to a fire Monday at 127 Kent Lane in Pikeville. Belfast Fire Department was on scene and had contained the fire in the home of M. Kearny, 39. Fire command reported to deputies that the victim suggested to them that someone had set his home on fire. The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
Break-ins
An 87-year-old man returned home after being out all day to find his house had been broken into and robbed. Robert Arthur Hasty, 131 Colonel Warrick Road, arrived home about 5:30 p.m. and noticed a window had been broken out. Inside he found various items were taken and notified the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. According to the report, a laptop, three cameras, $100 in coins, and camera and computer accessories were stolen. The total value of the stolen items and the damage to the window was listed at $2,400.
In an apparently unrelated break-in, at 3020 Indian Springs Road, Michael John Klemiuk, 33, returned home around 5:30 p.m. and saw tire marks in his yard. He found the back door to his home kicked in and items removed from his house. According to the report filed with the Sheriff's Office, a 46-inch flat-screen and a 42-inch flat-screen were taken, as well as a PlayStation 3, Wii, Kindle, iPod, a fireproof safe and cash were all taken. The total value of the stolen property and the damage to the door was listed at $4,600.
Shot in foot
Chrystopher Allen Lane, 22, 1760 Dobbersville Road, was shooting at targets in a field across the street from his home Monday, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report, when he accidentally shot himself in the foot. Lane was reloading his pistol when he discharged his firearm and was wounded. EMS 31 responded and took him to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Vehicle break-in
According to a Goldsboro police report, a trip to the movies cost one pair of viewers a bit more than expected. When they returned to their vehicle that was parked outside the Premiere Theatre at 105 Tenth Place, Rosalina Eugina Roblero Diaz, 45, and Ashley Hill, 19, found it had been broken into. The right front window was broken out and several items were removed. Among the stolen property was a black purse, several ID and bank cards, cash, and a tablet computer. The value of the items taken and the damage to the vehicle were totaled at $789.
