During what the Wayne County Sheriff's Office's Aviation Unit calls "eradication operations," about $12,500 worth of marijuana was seized along the Wayne and Johnston County line Monday.

The Sheriff's Office routinely surveys areas throughout Wayne County in an effort to spot and to seize pot plants otherwise concealed from view. Deputies also conduct traffic operations and other interdiction missions in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.

According to a press release issued by the Sheriff's Office, the Goldsboro and Wayne County Drug Squad, along with the Aggressive Crime Enforcement Team, assisted the helicopter deputies in locating five marijuana plants growing about 500 feet into a wooded area off Scout Road.

The plants were located within Johnston County's jurisdiction, so the Wayne County officers assisted those authorities in the seizure of the plants, which ranged from three to nine feet high.

"There won't be any arrests because we have no clue who the plants belong to," said Tammy Amaon, information officer for the Johnston County Sheriff's Office.
