The quick action of one Princeton family resulted today in the prevention of their home being robbed, and the apprehension of the would-be burglar.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Kenneth Lamont Parnell Jr., 32, of Smithfield, broke into a home at 3724 Pikeville Princeton Road just after 3 a.m. The residents were awakened and sprang into action.
"The homeowner heard a noise and went and confronted the intruder and they started fighting", said Maj. Tom Effler, spokesperson for the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
"His son came down, and called 911 and they held the suspect down until deputies arrived and took him into custody."
The Sheriff's Office is not releasing the names of the family that successfully defended there home.
When deputies did arrive, they found Parnell inside on the kitchen floor. He is charged with first-degree burglary, larceny and assault and battery and is being held under a $20,000 secured bond.
