The Wayne County Sheriff's Office announced an arrest Friday in the murder of 23-year-old Uber Ortiz Salas.
Detective Sgt. Robert Parchman arrested Giovanny Santos Rodriguez, 17, 210 Glen St., and charged him with one open count of murder and one count of firing into an occupied dwelling. Rodriguez will be held without bond until his first appearance before a judge, likely today.
Ortiz Salas was found shot at 130 Dogwood Lane when deputies responded to a 911 call reporting "shots fired" after 2 a.m. on Sept. 1. Ortiz Salas was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the Sheriff's Office, it will be up to the district attorney to determine whether to charge Rodriguez with first-degree or second-degree murder.
"With certain situations, it's obvious, but in some cases we simply charge the suspect with an open count of murder and the D.A. or the prosecutor will determine what degree to charge them with," said Maj. Tom Effler, head of investigations for the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
