A Dudley man arrested Thursday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office faces two counts of felony child abuse causing serious bodily injury.

According to a press release issued by the Sheriff's Office, Detective Sgt. Tammy Mozingo arrested James Linwood Montgomery Jr. in connection with the alleged child abuse. He is being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $211,000 secured bond.

The infant, who was 2 months old at the time, was taken to Duplin General Hospital July 27 with injuries consistent with what is known as Shaken Baby Syndrome -- multiple rib fractures, intracranial damage, subdural, a broken arm and leg, and skull fractures.

The child has since been released and placed in foster care, and according to the report, the child is recovering and "doing well."

The mother of the child, who was not identified in the report and was not considered a suspect in the case, has been assisting deputies throughout the investigation, according to the news release.

Montgomery, who also had two open warrants for failure to appear in court for traffic violations, is awaiting a first appearance on the abuse charges.
