Investigators are still processing the scene where Jaquees Miller, 23, of Kinston, was shot and killed at about 2:30 a.m. today.
According to a Goldsboro police report, Miller left the home of Tiffany Nicole Sutton, 20, of 127 Vanderbilt Circle, at 2:20 a.m. telling her he would "be right back."
Within minutes, Miss Sutton heard multiple gunshots and became concerned. Police said she drove around and then walked around West Haven Apartments searching for Miller.
She said she found the victim lying on the ground in what the report refers to as a back yard at 117 Astor Court. He had been shot at least once, according to the report.
Miss Sutton ran home immediately and contacted police and rescue, but it was too late.
Miller's death is now being investigated as a homicide.
More information is expected from the Goldsboro police later today, but as press time, there was no indication of a description of the suspect or suspects or a motive for the shooting.
The death marks Goldsboro's eighth homicide since April.
