Literacy Connections of Wayne County is planning a fundraiser in September to raise money to help more adults achieve their reading goals.
Reading Between the Wines will feature not only an evening of wine and heavy hors d'oeuvres, but also the chance to listen to readings by featured author, Margaret Maron, as well as a host of other local authors.
The $60 ticket price includes the refreshments, provided by some of Wayne County's best cooks, as well as the literary presentations -- and is about what it costs to pay for one student's reading materials, instruction and success.
The event will be held Sept. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Crone family home, 1923 Salem Church Road.
Donors have provided services or covered the costs of the event, so all the money raised will go directly to the program, Executive Director Pat Yates said.
Tax-deductible sponsorships ranging from $100 to $1,000 are being sought as well. Checks should be made payable to The Wayne Charitable Partnership and mailed to 308 N. William St., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.
Tickets are on sale beginning Monday at the Goldsboro News-Argus, the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and at the Wayne County Public Library.
Only a limited number of tickets are available for the event.
