The unofficial returns from District 4 showed incumbent the Rev. Charles Williams with a 200 to 190 vote victory over challenger Tondalayo Clark Tuesday night, but Ms. Clark indicated this morning that she intends to challenge the results of the election.
Ms. Clark indicated first that she intended to challenge the results, then said she had received word that would not be possible. After speaking with the Wayne County Board of Elections again, however, she said she would be asking for a recount of the votes.
"It's not official yet -- not until Tuesday -- and I'm challenging the results," she said.
Williams is reported to have earned 50.89 percent of the vote while Ms. Clark is believed to have received 48.35 percent of the 393 votes cast.
Williams did not return a phone call this morning.
