With the Independence Day holiday coming up, people will be wanting to celebrate with fireworks of all kinds.

In all the fun and excitement, don't forget about fireworks safety.

Capt. Rob Loreman with the Goldsboro Fire Department offers these tips to make sure your holiday doesn't end in a trip to the emergency room:

*Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks.

*Fireworks should be used only outdoors.

*Always have water ready if you are shooting fireworks.

*Read the caution label before igniting.

*Alcohol and fireworks don't mix.

*Never relight a "dud" firework.

*Soak spent fireworks with water before placing them in an outdoor garbage can.

If you have other questions about firework safety, contact the fire department at 580-4265.
