The next phase in the city's public survey on its proposed Air Force museum is slated to begin this week.

The Air Force Museum Citizen Committee will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the City Hall Annex before hosting the first of two community forums that night from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the same venue.

The second forum will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the Gertrude Weil Auditorium at the Wayne County Public Library at 1001 E. Ash St.

The forums are being held to engage the public about the museum idea as well as to solicit comments.

An online survey on the project will be conducted in mid-June for those who are unable to attend the forums.

The data collected during the forums and online survey period will be combined with findings from stakeholder meetings and cold interviews conducted earlier this month by the consultant's sub-contracted community evaluation arm to form a report for the Verner Johnson team to shape the vision of the Air Force museum.

The city contracted with Verner Johnson in April to put together a master plan for a museum proposed for the city's building at the corner of Spence Avenue and East Ash Street. The Goldsboro City Council voted last summer to purchase the building from the Arts Council of Wayne County for $500,000. The consultant contract with Verner Johnson cost the city $163,500.
