MOUNT OLIVE -- A Friendly Mart in Mount Olive was robbed at gunpoint about 2:15 this morning.
A man entered the store at 819 N. Breazeale Ave. with a bandanna covering his face and brandishing a handgun, Mount Olive Police Chief Brian Rhodes said.
There were two employees in the 24-hour convenience store during the robbery, the chief said.
The suspect held the firearm on a clerk as an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the register.
Mount Olive deputies requested the use of a Wayne County K-9 unit to locate the gunman.
The K-9 unit tracked the suspect to a location where it is believed he got in a vehicle and fled.
Rhodes said the investigation has not yet revealed if a second suspect acted as a getaway driver.
He said there is indoor surveillance footage of the suspect and that the investigation is continuing.
