Mooring defeats Coram

Democrat Lois Mooring will remain Wayne County's register of deeds.
The primary challenge between the incumbent and challenger Constance Coram was the only contested portion of the race for the job. Mrs. Mooring faces no Republican opposition in November.
"It was hot outside at the precincts today, but it feels like Christmas now because I received the majority of the presents, i.e., the votes," she said after being satisfied that the final vote tally had given her a third term as register of deeds.
But with those votes comes a humbling responsibility, she said.
"I am just so overwhelmed by it -- that so many people have placed their confidence in me to serve as register of deeds for another four years."
With all 30 of the Wayne County precincts reporting, Mrs. Mooring had 7,833 votes (70.52 percent) to 3,275 votes (29.48 percent) for Mrs. Coram.
The totals are unofficial until the May 15 canvass.
It is the second time that Mrs. Mooring has turned back a challenge by Ms. Coram in the Democratic primary. Four years ago, Mrs. Mooring won by an almost two-to-one margin.
Mrs. Mooring, 62 and a Fremont native, attributed her strong showing to being consistent in how she treats people and her efforts to provide good customer service.
But Mrs. Mooring said she is not going to rest on her laurels. There is a lot to be accomplished over the next four years in the office, like technology, she said.
"You have always got to stay abreast of the technology and right this minute I can't pinpoint one particular thing, but things are changing all of the time. You have to stay updated on what is out there that you can use in your office."
But for today it is back to work for Mrs. Mooring.
"You know I have been gone for two days," she said. "I am probably going to answer a lot of e-mails and voice mails and see a lot of papers on my desk. They need to be dealt with.
"I will be so tickled to do that -- to get back into my routine."
