WCC receives $25,000 grant

Wayne Community College has been granted $25,000 as a renewing site for Project Skill-UP, a program that provides financial assistance, job training and career enhancement for workers who have been adversely impacted by the changes in the tobacco industry.
Project Skill-UP was piloted in 2006 with a N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund grant to the N.C. Community College System. The NCTTF continues to fund this training initiative which gives unemployed and underemployed individuals marketable skills.
At WCC, the initiative will provide career assessments, courses to upgrade job skills, Career Readiness Certification preparation, and an array of medical, health-care, business, industrial technologies, agriculture and computer courses, as well as financial assistance including tuition and fee waivers for students who are unemployed and underemployed and affected by the decline of the tobacco industry.
