Meadow Lane Elementary School first-grader Shukun Wu, right, rolls up his sleeve as he prepares to answer a question from teacher Belinda Ham on Monday. She is holding Shukun's black history project presentation box. Each student in the class researched facts on influential black people in American history and created a cube with facts from that person's life on it. The project helped students with their reading and writing and also their public speaking. Presentations ranged from Oprah Winfrey to Ruby Nell Bridges Hall. Shukun's was on Martin Luther King Jr.
