Banquet honors those making a difference

A sorority dedicated to public service, a non-profit business that provides services for youths, and a volunteer who has given time to help the elderly, youths and the needy were the winners at the annual Human Relations Banquet held Saturday at Herman Park Center.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority earned the Civic Organization Award. The sorority, with more than 950 chapters and 250,000 members world-wide, has a five-point platform to help boost the educational development, political awareness and economic prospects of young black by supporting local programs.
The Goldsboro chapter of Delta Sigma Theta was chartered in 1965.
The Business/Industry Award went to ADLA Inc., a non-profit community development corporation and youth services organization with offices in Goldsboro and Mount Olive. Its mission is to help young people acquire the skills to earn a living and function in the ever-changing world of a global society and help instill the personal development qualities of honesty and integrity.
The winner of the Individual Award was Rovonda M. Bradford, who has volunteered to help with dozens of causes, most specifically leading health conferences, helping organize health fairs, facilitating Focus on Youth curriculum for teenagers, assisting at debutante balls, visiting the sick and shut-in, working at her church along with food and clothing drives.
Youth winners in both the essay writing and poster contests also were recognized.
