Only those grades three and older were eligible to attend the regional competition at UNC-Wilmington Feb. 11. The following were winners in individual categories.
* the 12 local winners chosen to move on to the regional level.
K-2: First place, Zyaire Webb from Meadow Lane Elementary School.
Grades 3-5: *Hunter Strickland, Carver Elementary, first place and best in show; *Giovanii Nelson, Carver, second place; and *Nicholas Yelverton, Fremont STARS, third.
Grades 6-8: Biology A: *Hannah Call, Norwayne Middle, first place; Biology B: *Matthew Collins and Caroline Taylor, Norwayne, first place; Lauren Moore, Mount Olive Middle, second; and Tychanna Williams, Dillard Middle, third.
Chemistry: Charles Ablem, Rosewood Middle, first place; Caitlin Ulrich, Mount Olive Middle, second; and Landon Casey, Norwayne, third.
Technology/engineering: *David Williamson, Norwayne, first place and best in show overall for middle school level; *Tracy Smith, Dillard, second; and *Taylor Long, Grantham, third.
Physics: *Hunter Williams, Norwayne, first place; Jayden Thomas, Rosewood Middle, second; and Evan Kornegay, Rosewood Middle, third.
Earth/environment: Josh Jernigan, Rosewood Middle, first place.
Grades 9-12: All winners were from Wayne School of Engineering.
Biology A: * Brad Henson, first place; Biology B: *Sawyer Strand, first place; Earth/Environmental Science: Samuel Prairie, first place; Physics: Zhyel Henderson, first place; Technology/Engineering: *Grayson Collins, first place.
