Free tax counseling and simple income tax preparation for senior citizens and taxpayers with low incomes will be available from AARP Tax-Aide counselors at the Wayne County Public Library on Mondays and Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 31.
Help will be available from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. through April 10.
Seniors ages 50 and older will be given priority.
In addition, tax returns will be prepared on Fridays at the Wayne County Center on Aging (the Senior Center) at 100 S. John St., appointment only, from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., beginning Feb. 3 and running through April 6.
People interested should call 731-1591 for an appointment.
The Internal Revenue Service requires that all taxpayers bring valid photo identification, a Social Security card or ITTN card, for themselves and all their dependents.
Tax returns will be filed electronically. The IRS will not allow AARP to prepare a return if the taxpayer refuses to have their return filed electronically.
