A Goldsboro man was in serious condition at Pitt Memorial Hospital Thursday after he was struck by a car Wednesday evening while trying to cross East Ash Street on a bicycle.

Mark Ray McNair, 50, of North Kornegay Street, was first taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, then airlifted to the Greenville hospital after he was stuck by a car.

According to the Goldsboro police report, McNair was suspected to be impaired by alcohol at the time of the accident.

A witness told police she saw McNair crossing the road with an alcoholic beverage before the accident.

McNair was struck in the 700 block, between North Leslie and North Lionel streets, by a Toyota traveling at about 30 mph around 5:45 p.m.

After being struck, McNair was thrown from his bicycle and onto the windshield of the vehicle before landing on the sidewalk, according to the report.

Anton Miguel Coley, 52, of Goldsboro, was the driver of the vehicle that struck McNair.

The tires of Coley's vehicle left approximately 35 feet of skid marks on the road as he braked to stop, according to the accident report.

Coley told police that he did not recall seeing McNair prior to the crash.

Police said Thursday that it does not appear anyone will be charged in the incident.
