Third man charged in break-in, assault

A third arrest was made Wednesday in a 2010 home invasion of an elderly couple in the Hood Swamp community.
Bakari Maurice Teachey, 21, of 105 Daryl Dr., was taken into custody and charged by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office with one count robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts second-degree kidnapping, one count breaking and entering and one count assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
The home invasion that Teachey is allegedly involved in occurred in the afternoon of Nov. 3 at a home on Central Heights Road while it was occupied by a married 78-year-old man and 76-year-old woman.
During the invasion, suspects forcefully entered the home, brandished a shotgun, struck the man in the head and pushed the woman against a wall. The man was treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital Emergency Room and released. The husband and wife have since made a full recovery, investigators with the Sheriff's Office said.
Several calls to the Sheriff's Office from area residents while the robbery was in progress, led to deputies pursuing the two men in a foot pursuit near the home.
Travis Antonia Harris, Jr. 19, and Alfonzo Mack, 18, both of Leslie Street, were arrested following the chase.
Each man remains in the Wayne County Jail under a $500,000 bond.
During the robbery, cash and several firearms were stolen. All property was returned to the homeowners, investigators said.
Investigator Rick Farfour built a case against Teachey over the course of the past year and handed over evidence that was heard in front this month's Wayne County Grand Jury leading to Teachey's indictment on Monday.
Teachey was placed under a $250,000 secured bond.
Investigators said Teachey is believed to be the final person who will be charged in the incident.
Following the invasion, Sheriff Carey Winders stated that the quick arrests of Harris and Mack were primarily due to the residents who cooperated with law enforcement.
