The fund, created in 1912, raises money to provide toys and clothing and the party for the children. The party will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, at 9 a.m. at Dillard Middle School.
Every penny collected goes to the children. There is no overhead and all the work is done by volunteers.
Invitations to the party go out the first week of December. Children are selected based on need.
As part of the fundraising effort, the Embers, the Southeast's premier "beach music" band will perform at the Paramount Theatre on Monday, Dec. 19, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the show starting at 7:30.
As is the case every year, The News-Argus will publish the names of donors between now and the end of the campaign. Donors can make contributions in honor of, or in memory of, a loved one, or they can make their donation anonymously.
Donations should be mailed to: Empty Stocking Fund, c/o The News-Argus, P.O. Box 10629, Goldsboro, 27532, or simply dropped off at the newspaper office at 310 N. Berkeley Blvd.
