Three registered nurses at Wayne Memorial Hospital have been named to the state's list of Great 100 Nurses.

Kelli Corbett, Cindy McPhail and Debbie Smith were recently honored during ceremonies at the annual Great 100 Nurses Gala in Greensboro.

Ms. Corbett, an employee at the hospital for 11 years, works in the post-anesthesia care unit. She earned an associate degree from Wayne Community College and a bachelor's degree in nursing at East Carolina University.

Ms. McPhail, former supervisor of clinical operations for the intensive care unit, is currently serving as interim director of the ICU. She received an associate degree from WCC and a bachelor's degree in nursing from ECU. She has worked at the hospital for 12 years.

Ms. Smith, staff development educator, has been at Wayne Memorial for 23 years. She earned her associate degree from Western Piedmont Community College, a bachelor's degree in nursing from ECU and a master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

The Great 100 nurses program was organized in 1988 to recognize nurses from all areas of the career field for a commitment to excellence and making a difference in their community. It also provides scholarships for nursing education.

In the 12 years since it was launched, the program has awarded $140,000 in nursing scholarships.
