Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. Director Julie Thompson announced Friday afternoon that her organization's move to North John Street will get a boost, as Wells Fargo informed her that DGDC's request for a grant to assist with renovations of the building had been approved.
Wells Fargo Community Affairs Manager Juan Austin enclosed a check for $2,500 with a letter to Ms. Thompson explaining they had been awarded the grant.
DGDC acquired the buildings within the 200 block of North John Street in an effort to save and market the properties before selling them to private investors. The group decided to restore and renovate one property for its own use in an effort to show the economic and social benefits to rehabilitating existing properties.
Construction began Sept. 21 on the building at 219 N. John St., which will boast three offices on the first floor and a second floor designed to accommodate meetings of the DGDC board of directors.
The $2,500 will go toward paying down the organization's debt on a loan taken out from BB&T for $242,000.
