Police vehicle totaled in accident
A Goldsboro police patrol car was totaled Saturday afternoon after it left a roadway to avoid colliding with another vehicle, police say.
The officer, Brandon Keith Edgerton, 23, was treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital for a muscle strain and released later in the day.
Police say the accident was a $12,000 loss.
The patrol car, a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria, was traveling north on North William Street in emergency-response mode to a breaking and entering call when a second vehicle pulled in front of the vehicle at the intersection of Holly Street, police say. Edgerton swerved, left the road and struck two trees before coming to stop.
Guns stolen from home
A small arsenal was stolen from a home in the 800 block of Herman Lane Road in Stantonsburg between Sept. 26 and 27.
A resident of the home said on returning to his house he found the front door kicked in and eight of his firearms, a 55-inch television and $6,000 in cash stolen.
The stolen firearms included a bolt action rifle with scope, synthetic stock .270 caliber; bolt action .22 magnum rifle with scope; bolt action .22 LR rifle with scope; 20-gauge single barrel shotgun; pump 12-gauge shotgun; .50 caliber black powder gun; 9mm pistol with 2 magazines; and a .22 magnum Derringer pistol.
Wildlife Club break-in
Wayne County Wildlife Club reported a breaking and entering and damage to property on Sept. 26.
A suspect(s) entered the clubhouse building, on Circle Drive in Pikeville, and damaged three windows, a kitchen counter, five folding tables, 12 ladder back oak chairs and an exterior door and knob lock. The total reported damage was more than $1,500.
The break-in occurred between Sept. 25 and 26.
Attempted theft at grocery store
Twenty-nine cartons of cigarettes were stolen, and later recovered, from the Fool Lion store on Five Points Road on Sept. 30.
A store employee told Wayne County Sheriff's Office deputies that a suspect jumped over the a counter and put the cartons in a black plastic bag.
While in the store, the suspect was confronted by an employee and dropped the bag of stolen merchandise. The suspect left the store before authorities arrived.
The value of the cigarettes was reported at more than $1,000.
