The Wayne County Board of Health is looking for three new members to fill positions on the board.
Applications are being accepted for the positions that come open effective January 2012 -- two "public members" and an engineer. The latter has to be a professional engineer, registered with the N.C. Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors.
The primary obligation of board members is to attend a noontime meeting once a month, on the third Wednesday, and to make health-related decisions that affect residents of Wayne County.
Eleven members make up the board, reflecting the population of the county. By law, those members include a physician, licensed dentist, licensed optometrist, licensed veterinarian, registered nurse, licensed pharmacist, county commissioner, professional engineer and three representatives from the general public.
Members are appointed by the board of commissioners and serve three-year terms. They can serve up to three consecutive terms.
Applications can be found online at waynegov.com and going to the link marked "Documents."
Officials are requesting applications to be received prior to the next meeting, which will be Oct. 19, so that the commissioners will have adequate time to review candidates and vote before the term starts.
