Goldsboro Fire Department responds to 42 calls during week of September 16-22

The Goldsboro Fire Department responded to 42 calls during the week of Sept. 16 to Sept. 22.
The responses included 12 assists to Wayne County Emergency Medical Services, 11 false alarms and 9 vehicle accidents.
Firefighters also made calls to three structure fires during the week.
The department responded to a house fire at 155 Perkins Rd. on Sept. 16 around 3 p.m. The response time was reported at 9 minutes and 8 seconds.
Belfast Volunteer Fire Department was on the scene when the city department arrived.
After noticing smoke coming from the home's soffit, firefighters entered the attic, but no heat source was found. Smoke was then discovered coming through the floor by the water heater.
Firefighters then went underneath the home and found a smoldering floor joist.
According to the report, the fire was caused by a dryer vent drying out the wooden joist enough to cause it to smolder.
Another house fire occurred on Sept. 17 around 4:30 a.m. at 709 N. George St.
The response time was less than 6 minutes.
A woman inside the home stated to officials that she had woken up to find fire on a wall and that she was able to extinguish the fire with a pot of water.
Firefighters set up a fan to remove smoke from inside the home. After an investigation a cause was not determined.
Firefighters responded to a third house fire at 602 E. Holly St. around 10:30 a.m. Sept. 20.
The response time was 6 minutes and 13 seconds.
When firefighters entered the home they encountered smoke and made their way in to a bedroom, where they found smoldering clothes near an electrical outlet. No fire was found in the home. A mattress and clothes that were burned were removed from the home.
An occupant of the home told firefighters a that his son alerted him the day before to an outlet that was sparking in his room. Several lights in the home were also not working. On the following day, the occupant flipped the breaker. The fire in the bedroom around the outlet was later discovered, and the fire department was called.
The cause of the fire was ruled an electrical short.
Firefighters responded to vehicle fire in the parking lot at 701 W. Grantham St. on Sept. 16 around 8 p.m. The response time was 4 minutes.
At the scene, firefighters reported heavy fire showing in the passenger compartment of the 1997 Land Rover.
The vehicle's owner told officials that the vehicle's head lights started to flicker and he began to smell smoke so he decided to pull over. He then discovered a fire in the rear passenger side of the vehicle.
After firefighters extinguished the fire, a cause was not determined, but the incident was reported not to be suspicious.
