A new director of public relations has been hired by Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Georgia Martin Dees, who spent 11 years as community relations director for The Pines of Goldsboro Assisted Living, took over the reins earlier this month.
The job at the hospital was previously held by Amy Cain, who left in late April. She had been in the position for eight years before taking over as director of marketing at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center in Florida.
Mrs. Dees, a graduate of Goldsboro High School and School of Journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill, has 25 years' experience in communications.
She began her career as a newspaper reporter for the Wilson Daily Times and served as public information officer for Wilson Technical Community College. She has also been communications director for the N.C. Alliance of Community Financial Institutions and the N.C. Department of Commerce, where, as director of public affairs she handled media relations and speechwriting for Governors Jim Martin and Jim Hunt on issues pertaining to job creation and economic development throughout the state.
Locally, she has been chairman of the board of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and served on boards and committees with the Wayne County Senior Games, United Way and First Presbyterian Church of Goldsboro.
In her new role at the hospital, Mrs. Dees will serve as liaison to the media and provide information to patients through hospital publications, community newsletters, radio programs and the website and work closely with other agencies on special initiatives and community-related events.
