Shooting supect arrested

MOUNT OLIVE -- A Dudley man wanted in connection with the kidnapping of a Goldsboro woman and firing a rifle into an occupied house was arrested Friday at about 6:30 p.m. in Kinston after officers surrounded a hotel where the suspect and two other men were staying.
Shontionne Domian Darden, 26, was arrested on warrants for kidnapping, larceny from the person, robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault by pointing a gun and discharging a firearm into occupied property.
Darden had been considered armed and extremely dangerous.
"He was at the West Park Inn and Suites on U.S. 70 west of Kinston," Mount Olive Police Chief Brian Rhodes said. "We received information from a confidential informant."
Family members had told police that Darden was going to give up.
"He was supposed to have turned himself in Thursday, but that never came to fruition," Rhodes said. "We received the information he was over there and we contacted Kinston police. We coordinated with them to get this guy. We utilized their SWAT team because we didn't know what weapons, if any, that he might have. They arrested him and turned him over to us."
Two other men who were in the room, including Darden's father, were taken into custody, but later released because they had not been involved in the incident, Rhodes said.
He said he did not know the identity of the third man. Darden was taken into custody without incident. There are no additional charges.
Four Mount Olive police officers arrived in Kinston about 2 p.m. Friday. Later that afternoon, officers surrounded the hotel and were getting ready to enter the room when one of the men left the room. Officers then approached the room and took the other two men into custody.
Darden was jailed under a $500,000 bond. His first appearance in court is expected to be Monday morning, Rhodes said.
Mount Olive police received a call about 4:20 a.m. last Tuesday concerning a shooting on Oliver Street.
When police officers arrived, the occupant told them that a naked white female had run up to his house begging for him to call police. While he was calling police, the man said a black male driving a red car pulled in front of his house and asked if someone had knocked on the door.
The driver then pulled out a rifle and started shooting at the house. Damages to the house were estimated at $8,000.
The occupant of the house suffered injuries to his back and the back of his legs and was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital. It was not clear if the injuries were from the gunshots or broken glass, police said.
At first, the woman refused to talk to police telling officers that they needed to leave because Darden was reloading his AK-47 and would return to kill her.
Police were finally able to calm the woman down enough so that she would talk. She said she worked at a Goldsboro night club and that two black male customers had offered her a ride home.
She said one of the men pulled out a rifle and after driving for a while one of the men was dropped off at a house.
The victim said she tried to leave, but that the man pointed the rifle in her face and told her to take her clothes off. She was able to get away from the man and find help. She was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
