Fathers and children are invited to a play date this weekend.

"Daddy Day in the Park" will be held on Saturday at Berkeley Park from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

"It's a day where men get a chance to bring their children out to the park to play and have a good time and eat and get information about being a better father," said Nicholas Worrell, male involvement director with WAGES, sponsor of the event.

This is the second year for the "Daddy Day," but the first time at the Berkeley location.

It is an outgrowth of the male involvement group, geared for fathers of children from birth to age 5.

"We meet twice a month, the second and last Thursday of the month, from 5:30-7:30 in WAGES on Royall Avenue," Worrell said. "We meet to give them resume writing training, job interviews, also help them become better fathers and involved in the lives of their children, build their self-esteem as a man."

Last year the program helped more than 120 fathers, with this year's goal to reach 200, he said.

Saturday's event is for parents of all ages.

And everything is free -- food and games, which include football, hula hoop, a sack race and a wheelbarrow race.
