Alzheimer's caregiver education conference Aug. 23 at Walnut Creek

A Caregiver Education Conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Walnut Creek Country Club.

The event is being sponsored by Alzheimer's North Carolina Inc.; Eastern Carolina Council Area Agency on Aging and the Wayne County Services on Aging.

The theme of the Conference is "Working Together to Fill Your Caregiver Toolbox." The morning keynote address will be by Dr. Len Lecci of the UNC-Wilmington Psychology Department. After the keynote presentation, participants will be able to choose from several breakout sessions: Medications and Pain Management, Navigating Care Options, and Caring for the Caregiver.

Lunch will be served and there will be exhibitors with additional information pertaining to caring for a person with dementia.

The day will end with a presentation by Melanie Bunn on "Matching Your Level of Assistance to Their Level of Dementia."

New this year, participants will have the opportunity to take a Virtual Dementia Tour which will help them understand the physical and mental challenges that those with dementia face.
