Man charged in store robbery, assault
Shannyn Demetrius Ward, 22, was arrested by Goldsboro police on July 22 for a common law robbery charge stemming from a report filed on May 1, 2011.
Ward is allegedly the suspect who purchased an alcoholic beverage at Brookside Mart at 2000 South Slocumb, opened the item, then demanded a refund.
The suspect was told that he could not have a refund and reacted by reaching over counter and grabbing money out of the register.
During the act, the suspect punched a female clerk and another clerk in the head and face.
The subject, believed to be Ward, was then able to get away on foot
He was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $45,000 secured bond.
East Walnut Street homes targeted for copper
A home at 1204 East Walnut Street that is owned by Southern Bank in LaGrange was victimized by a copper thieves between July 4 and July 19.
A total of $14,000 was reported as stolen and damaged from the home. The suspect(s) damaged an HVAC unit, plumbing and wiring. Copper wiring and pipes were reported stolen.
Some of the damaged occurred after the suspect(s) entered a crawl space underneath the home.
A vacant home at 1104 East Walnut Street, between July 24 and July 25, had the copper stripped from it air conditioner. According to the report $3,000 worth of copper was taken and $2,000 was done in damage to the unit.
A theft at a home at 1102 East Walnut Street resulted in more than $2,300 in damages and stolen property during a burglary between July 12 and July 22.
The suspect(s) went under the home and removed wiring from under the residence. Copper was also taken from the HVAC system.
Homeowner finds man under home
A Dudley home on Becker Place was the scene of an attempted burglary on Sunday.
A man was in the home when heard a noise outside. When he stepped out, he saw a suspect coming out from under his home carrying a hand full of copper tubing.
When he confronted the suspect, the man dropped the copper pieces and rapidly left on a bicycle.
The suspect has not been apprehended by authorities.
500 grams
cocaine seized
Nearly 500 grams of cocaine was seized from a home in the Hood Swamp area July 21 by members of the Goldsboro/Wayne County Drug Squad.
Abel Tolentino Hernandez, 40, who consented to the late-night search at 257 Peele Road, has been charged with trafficking cocaine.
Hernandez was in the home with two women and two children at the time of the search, deputies said.
Lawmen entered the home around midnight and seized the half kilo of cocaine, which has a potential street value of $50,000.
The drug squad was assisted by the Drug Enforcement Administration's High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force from Raleigh and the Greenville Drug Task Force.
Hernandez was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $500,000 secured bond.
